I am looking at getting a Canon S30 Powershot but am concerned how well it will do pics of tank ********. Anyone have suggestions for a sub $400 digital camera that will take good tank pics?

Hi,
I just bought a new digital for x-mas for hubby. Do not buy the cannon... it has bad reviews specially for indoor use....
Check out the Kodak 4300-4400 series or the fugi, cant remember the #, but one of them is good
I bought the Kodak 4300 for 299.99... good deal
also bought all the accessories.. it has one of the highest pixels and stuff for the $$

The Fuji FinePix 2800 was suggested by a friend. Is this the one you were referring to Kim?

I have a Canon G2, which is out of your range, but have also played with other canon cameras and have been more than satisfied.
Not sure where the bad reviews came from for the s30 , but both cnet and zdnet give it the editors choice. Read both the editorial reviews and user reviews.
I would avoid kodak.
I say, go for the s30. Get it from bestbuy or somewhere that you can return it for another if not satisfied.

possibly the fugi finepix 3800? this camera (as well as the s230) will focus as close as 3.9 inches....pretty decent for tank shots....another thing you might want to consider is the flash, look for a camera that has a "hotshoe" on it that way you can mount an external flash onto it to keep the glare off the glass away...
the nikon coolpix 3500 has a macro mode that will focus down to 1.6 inches...even better for tank shots, and a little cheaper than the fugi 3800
