OT. Iraq

I got this in an email and thought it was appropriate with the current status in Iraq.
From the email, this was said to be a true.
When in England at a large conference, Colin Powell was asked by the Archbishop of Canterbury if our plans for Iraq were just an example of empire building by George Bush.
Powell answered by saying, "Over the years, the United States has sent many of its fine young men and women into great peril to fight for freedom beyond our borders.
The only amount of land we have ever asked for in return is enough to bury those who did not return."
It became very quiet in the room.

Can't bring them back if they are chemicaly contaminated, but does not mean we don't remember them and their sacrafice. Luckilyy no Chem weapons were used yet.

I believe they can be decontaminated.

Try telling that to Rummsfeld (http://www.denverpost.com/cda/articl...132683,00.html).this article came from the Denver post, but a lot of other newspapers, and even foxnews carried a story about it. There are more recent stories about it, but I would have to go looking for them. Not starting a debate here just saying. Me personaly If I am serving oversees and I get chemed I want them to burn me on the spot. Than again I firmly believe my body is just like a ford, when it's broke down, junk it, it's just a vehicle it's the passenger that is important.

Well that sux. The article I mean. I guess we could creamate then ship them back over here with a proper burial. After creamation they would almost be 100% free of any chemical. Naa I agree Im not debating. I just think its the governments easy way out.

naa just talking about the bulldozers digging "pits" to throw the contaminated soldiers in so they dont contaminate over here. I would creamate instead then bury them over here. Throwing our guys in a bulldozed pit like dead dogs just irks me.

I think the part of the buldozing is the medias way of getting our attention, sometimes they like to stretch the truth. I do not believe it would happen, nor do I believe anyone ordered in that position would either. Our troops go out of the way to make sure everyone makes it back, and I believe they would do the same in a chemical or biological situation. I am sure that great care would be taken to make sure no-one else is contaminated by this kind of warfare, and graves may be cordoned off until they are safe, but never just tossed in a hole and covered up.

oh my god.. what has this thread turned too......
whatever you think your points are, there is no definitive point.
Just an expression of the united states responding too some countries view that we are empire building (many different meanings too...)
and in response, he is implying that we are not asking for anything other then us risking many young men and women to fight for their freedom.
compliance had it right, remembrance.
as far as that article, thankfully, it appears that we wont have to see what would have happened. But what do you do if a million people in baghdad die due to a chemical or biological weapon?

Colin Powell.........gotta love that guy. Dripping with tact. The art of making a point without making an enemy is a tough one to say the very least.......Colin does that well. :)
Beware of the Geraldos.
