OT: Need Computer help badly

Okay, the 17th of july someone purchased something from Astrodyne Inc., it was a 100 dollar charge from a company i never even heard of. I went to the site and had no clue what this was. So i called my Credit Card company and filed a claim. So the person would need my name address phone number etc....
I have a D-link hub and it had a firewall so i thought everything is fine and didnt think it was the computer. That someone got it from some where other then the computer.
First of all i am using XP.
Well today, my keyboard went wierd. Everytime i pressed "a", "z" , "alt" and other keys it would do something funny like press "as" or " qq" all at once. When i tried installing a firewall program. I was scared... You know where you get a box and it says "ending program" on the top, when you try quitting a program and a status bar on how long it will be until it closes. Okay so that box comes up before my computer restarts and the top where it says the program name its closing... the program was called "Not to be shown".....
Right now im on another computer on the same router. That computer with that keyboard problem and wierd unknown program is currently off and i am going to wait for my cousin to check it out. Also, i have no installed any wierd programs i am aware, no hacked or warez programs either.
Now i am worried all my information is in the hands of a jerk, who has an unknown amount of knowledge from my computer including important information that could lead to someone stealing my identity. I also have not filed a police report, do you recommend me to?
i know this is a saltwaterfish forum but i dont really know who to turn to and was wondering if anyone knew what i should do, or any advice. Should this computer i am using be any safe? I have used a virus scanner on the internet and it has no detected anything.
Thank you, i hope no one has to go through this h3ll.:(

Yikes...being a computor dummy a few of my major fears have always been hackers & virus problems. Sounds to me like you've got problems with either or both!
I can't help with your problem at all but there are a few computor experienced folks here that have always helped me with computor related problems/questions. Hopefully somebody will be able to provide some info you can use. Good luck...

Disconnect your PC from the network...reboot and see if the keyboard problem is still prevelant...chances are, they keyboard irradict behavior is a Windows glitch...a reboot will fix that...as for the Credit Card stuff...no clue..
Also a word on Firewalls...as with burglar alarms, or any other level of intrusion detection systems...they can be breached...the time required to breach them while being undetected is the important factor. With your d-link router, the firewall included via d-link is pretty solid from what I have observed thus far.

okay the keyboard works again. i will register and post in that forum. thanks guys.
what about that program, that to me is the scariest problem of all. It poped up when it was trying to restart when i was installing another firewall program.
or am i just being paranoid?

Well, I don't know how familiar you are with pop-op ads, but you will find that depending on the sites you look at, some of these ads can get pretty good at running in the background and not allowing you to get out of them. If you continually close them and they keep popping up, sooner or later you may have had a memory problem. I wouldn't worry that much about that program. Just get a decent anti-virus program and you should be fine.
As far as identity theft goes, your credit card info can get stolen anywhere. Trust me....happened to me twice now! Just file a claim and let them get rid of it. Just make sure it's not a family member because you will be signing a release to allow the CC company to press charges. I don't think the two are related. But if you have MS Money or some other program, just double protect yourself by password protecting that as well.
And do a periodic credit check. Cost like 9 buck over the net and you can at least tell if someone has tried to change your address or get credit in your name that you don't know about. Easiest fix is to catch it early.

if your behind a router/firewall i doubt you been hacked, sounds like something else has happened. anyone use your puter without you knowing mabey? anyways you wont have any ports open with a router/hub you can have your computer scanned and it will tell you what is open and what not. i run norton myself and you can use that website even if not running norton and they will scan your computer to see if they can find any open ports. if you use a router you dont need a firewall because it is a firewall in itself......good luck keep us informed.
