OT: Reefkeeping changed your eating habits?

I wonder how many have changed their eating habits before/after reef keeping?
I never was much of a lobster fan before, and I could never eat one now. As to the other stuff - well I still look forward to shrimp scampi and clam chowder.

I don't think I could go to one of those tanks and pick out the lobster I was going to eat but I still love seafood.

I was never a sea food fan anyway. What really turned me off was when my wife ordered a whole lobster in a restaurant. Then she had to dismantle that thing to eat it.

Hey DJ,
You have enough posts now that you can put an avatar under you name. At the top of the page click on user CP and look around the edit function. I think it has to be smaller that 50 x 50 pixels. Knowing you it should be something interesting.

I still love lobster and any seafood for that matter, but I can only afford Mac and Cheese now since I started with the reef.

I wouldn't let my husband get the giant clam when we went for sushi the other night. I see signs for conk soup on the side of the road on the way to the beach and it turns my stomach. I couldn't imagine eating my conch, they are too cute.
But as for the rest of it, I'd take fried catfish and some hush puppies, or maybe some blackend salmon right now if I could!!!
Mybe a little hypocritical, but it's okay.

I can only eat meat/seafood by trying hard not to think about where it comes from. I even felt bad for the poor little dead shrimps I'm cycling my tank with. :(

Love seafood...except, I did find myself not ordering unagi when I go to sushi. I have a snowflake eel...I guess it is some weird loyalty thing. Mind you, I have cleaner shrimp, and I still eat shrimp, so I guess that makes no sense!
Also, I fish and dive alot...so I have no problem with eating seafood...actually I just brought back about 150lbs of mahi mahi from Mexico yesterday...guess I will be eating that for a while!

sure it has- insted of buying food i screw myself and buy corals insted- im getting pretty hungry:mad:
but really i have been on the way to the LFS and not stopped for food just becaues i figure that extra 5 might make a difference

Tiff, the sad part about you eating seafood around here is, you and I both know where it comes from and what gets put in the water around here. Personally I dont touch seafood. My dad traumatized me when I was a little kid. After having reef tanks now makes me even more deadset against it. Hey and I defended those poor defenceless eels in my anthropology class against the barbarian scum who eat them raw. Have you guys seen how they cut them initially. They dont even bother to kill them first, they just pull them out of the bucket and start slicing.

My whole family(ex) is vegetarians except me (outcasted from family since i met my wife on ICQ in 98) . Still i never touched any seafood (cannot stand it). If wife eats shrimp or any other seafood, she is not allowed to come close to me. :D

It's kind of funny how we love our fish in the tank and then get mad when one of them makes dinner out of a shrimp or another fish when we eat fish and shrimp and crabs all the time!
I guess it just depends on our whim which ones we designate for watching and which one we pick for eating. I never felt guilty eating a fish...... Lesley
