Everyone reacts differently. What happened? Describe the symptoms if you will. One friend I have got stung by a pretty big Volitan and he said it hurt, but other than some redness and minor swelling, he said he's had worse bee stings. When I got my Russell's, he stung the lady that got him out of the tank and she had major swelling in her hand and it turned all dark. Pretty weird. I'm still surprised she never went to the clinic cause her hand was huge.
I believe heat weakens the poison and to weaken it you are suppose to run the stung area under hot water for a couple minutes. Water as hot as you can possibly stand...

Hi:
I'm my 10yrs of keeping lions i have been tagged twice. Both times it was my fault and i startled the lions. Both lions zapped me good and it hurt like a mofo. Consider it an intense wasp sting, and treat it accordingly.
Tyrfing is right the venom is Heat-labile which means (heat will break it down). Just immerse the site in hot (not scalding)water for up to 30mins and this will lesson the side effects. Here is a medical website w/ the info from Dr.Scott A Gallagher

Here are some other threads in which people have gotten zapped as well.

Thats great! They only sting like a wasp... Awhile back when I first set up my tank, my dad and I went to the LFS. I really wanted to get a dwarf lion that they had, but the LFS lady informed my dad that they were a DEADLY fish. This totally freakd my dad out and I couldnt get it... maybe now ill get one ) :D

they only sting ike a wasp sting, but
wasps are deadly to many people, jsut like many spiders, depends on the individual, so they cna be deadly too, each person is very different, as you cna see, some only say ouch(as mentioned), and some will get red and swell up and some will turn purple or worse, so it is realtive to the individual, all i am saying is if you do get one, use caution anyhow, and be ready, know what to do in the event, even though most lion stings are self inflicted to a pretty good extent(in other words, teh handler did somethign wrong)

I'm not sure I imparted the right message. A wasp sting hurts-hurts real bad.
While its not lethal in 98% of the population, if you are allergic or hypersenstive, it could be a serious problem.
Just play respect to this fish while it in your aquarium, and ALWAYS beware of where the fish is when you clean
