out of control

I started a 55 gal tank 6 months ago. after 2 months one of my live rocks grew something which looked like a cross between a mushroom and an anemone. i thought "Great " i was feeding it and it grew very quickly. but....after being so excited, it spread through out the tank, on all my live rock, on the heater , everywhere were these tiny mushroom/ anemone things which the local fish store said was a rock anemone and to get rid of them so i tried to cut it off, but when i touched it, it disappeared into the rocks only to return an hour later. does this sound like a rock anemone? how can i get rid of them?

it sounds like aiptasia. i think rock anemone is another name for it. The best wat to get rid of them i think is to get a peppermint shrimp. mine loves to eat aiptasia

yeha, it's aiptasia. Not neccesarily a good thing. They overgrow your system fast. I have had luck using a serenge (spelling) and injecting hot water into them before they can pull back into the rock. If that doesn't work you may want to try getting that peppermint shrimp.

I agree with these guys. Peppermint is a good way to go. But be advised that some peppermint shrimp will not eat rock anenomes.

I've read that the pepermint shrimps sometimes aren't effective
there is a substance that you can purchase I don't know what it's called but supposedly it works great and is safe.
Do a search on Apatsias and you may find it but I'm positive what I read
