Overfeeding?

How often do you feed your fish?
I have 2 Cromis that I give flakes twice a day
I have an undultated trigger (seperate tank) that I feed squid once a day.
The question I am having is I have a large (7") Arothron meleagris
(spotted Puffer) and I've taken to ffeding him twice a day.
My water chemistry seems to be ok for an agressive set up. Amonia is fine and I'm good about water changes. I am starting to think I feed too much, your thoughts?
Thanks in advance. JP.

I too am a bit concerned about overfeeding. I've been feeding my lion about 3-4 2.5" silversides each feeding, which is about every couple days. The lion doesn't even seem to be full even after eating, its still looking at me for more :D My angels seem to be the same. The body is fairly thick when viewed from top.
But, I figure as long as your water parameter is fine then your not overfeeding. I also believe its better for your fish to be happy than being starved to death and stressing out.

It's really quite simple - but can be different or confusing for many of us.
Fish need to eat.
Whether they get enough food from natural sources in the tank such as pods/critters, picking at live rock or munching on algae - or we choose to feed them prepared fish foods - either way - they need food.
How much and what types of food will depend entirely on the particular species we keep, each fish's feeding requirements and the amount of natural food sources in our tank.
I do believe that most folks have a tendency to overfeed - as opposed to underfeeding. Many fish do not need to eat near as much as we sometimes think they do. Other's need to eat more regularly. It all depends.
There is a balance that can be struck - things such as the number of fish size of tank, feeding vs activity level, waste production vs biofiltration capacity and maintenance habits - all can be factored into our feeding routines.
In my opinion - only you can determine what the proper balance is for your unique tank setup and fish.

I'm probably guilty of over-feeding my fish, but as long as my water is fine and the fish are happy, I don't care. My puffer eats anywhere from 3-6 times a day. Puffers are the easiest to tell if you're feeding them enough or not. If their sides are concaved, they're not eating enough. Most other fish aren't supposed to be round, so it's harder to tell if they're starving until it's too late.

as long as your water quality is fine i wouldnt worry about it but if the water starts reading high cut down to feeding once a day. If the water would still be reading high then you could do once every other day till the readings come down you could also try feeding 2 a day one day and the next do once a day and just keep feeding with that schedule
