Ok so I have been looking around and found diy plans on the net on how to make an overflow box like this one.

Ok so questions i have are will this be enough for a 75 gal aquarium (also how big of a return pump will i need for a 75 gal) if it is 7" wide with a channel of 1/2 inch. Also how thick of acrylic do i need and will home depot have what I need or where can i go to get it. I realize that there isnt a bulk head on this pic but there is one pic on the guys page. Also im guessing you guys know where i got this from but i didnt know if it was ok to post a link to his page since he sells things on there too

I don't know about that one...I use the CPR overflow with the lifter pump...you can check that brand out, just Google it. I have it on both my tanks and I use on my return pumps the Ehiem 2000 on the 30g and the Ehiem 3000 on the 90g.

The size seems big enough. You could always email Mark or hit him up on his forum site (reef addicts) and pose the question there, he's on there all the time. The one thing with overflows is that you want to match them as best you can for the size of pump you plan on using. Too big or too small is not good.
For a return pump I would try to stay with a pump that is going to give you somewhere between 3x-5x the turn over rate of your entire system volume per hour after head pressure. So the water volume in your sump should be considered.

Are you looking to make an internal overflow box with a bulkhead or a overflow siphon box. Personally if I were you I would go with a drilled tank and internal overflow.

Agreed...if you are going to go through the trouble of making an external overflow box then you might as well just make an internal box (easier) and drill the tank. Why run an external overflow if ya don't have to. Sounds like you've got the DIY spirit and that's half the battle won right there.

Yeah im looking into getting a bigger tank so i was checking all the options out. I also would like to make the tank drilled but im scared to death that if i have it done or do it myself that it will break while doing it or my luck would be that it would break later down the road after doing it. Where can you take a tank to get it drilled or can you do it yourself with minimal risk and how much does that cost. also would i have to go with 1 or 2 outlets on a 75 gal. Last question is will it be louder than what i have right now on my 30 gal which is an external with a u tube.

I used to be leary of drilling a tank as well after doing a few I found it really easy. I made up a jig that acts like a guide and holds water for cooling as you are drilling. I just PM'd you the instructions - if you have trouble reading them I can email you the instructions.
