Overflow help needed-

Hey guys, i have a 150g glass tank - standard dimensions- and i want to clean up the look of the tank and increase the flow through my sump at the same time. The tank is 3'' off the wall, too small of a space for commercial overflow boxes- i have a dual overflow box on the end of the tank and i would really like to remove it and come up with some better option that can go behind the tank.
A few possibilities would be making a PVC overflow, with multiple intakes and tubes running into the sump. Another would be making a internal box, and a external box with multiple U-tubes and 4-5 drain lines. Also, i have heard of people properly drilling tanks with most of the water still in them ( i would really rather not tear the whole damn' thing down to drill it )
Any ideas?

I've drilled quite a few tanks while setup.....Was nerve racking the first 1 I did, but that's pretty common with anything the first time you try it.....As far as space....I don't see much or many options....Either use the PVC overflow, but IMO I'd dress it up as much as possible, or my choice.....Take the tank down and move it away from the wall and drill it....3" even if you drill it, and use shorty bulkheads.....Your tight on space and making sure you get good glue joints working in 3" of space doesn't leave much wiggle room IMO......
