Overflow help

Hello,
I have a newly set up 200G tank which I upgraded to from a 55G. I have all of the plumbing finished and so forth. Added in my livestock last week.
My question is about my overflow-
It has a center overflow area.
One bulkhead is the return and the other is the overflow.
It has a 2" bulkhead that I put the overflow pipe in to. It looks similar to a stockman standpipe. I cut holes in it and so forth near the top for the water to drain down in to. I did not use pvc glue to glue the pipe to the bulkhead because I figure I will have to do maintenance on the pipe which will require taking it out.
This all works perfectly well while the system is running. However when I perform a power out test it is not good. My return backflows water as expected and I have enough room left in my sump to accomodate that. The problem is the overflow area water then trickles down through the overflow piping where the 2" pipe goes into the bulkhead and would overflow the sump. I hope I described that right.
Are there any good tricks for being able to keep the overflow standpipe secure but be able to take it out to do maintenance on as well?
I would hate for the power to go out while I am at work to come home and find a big mess.

if you follow along my thread i have this some question going and what i did...but i may have messed up by reducing my drain line to 1" and i glued my 1" pvc to the inside of my bulk head....i figured i had a 1" hole best thing to do would have the whole system on a 1" line
