Overflow HELP!!

Okay,, help me! I don't understand overflows/the plumbing for them and sumps! I want to make my own sump from a 20 gallon tank for my 46 bow front. But I am very confused by the oveflow,, where do I put them?/ and what are they supposed to ,look like?? what is the best brand I can buy?? try putting this question in the equipment forum.
but i will try to help you out here. an overflow is a box that hangs on the back. (unless your tank is predrilled) the box is cut in half, one half inside the tank, the other out side your tank. water flows into the one box, with is brought out of the tank by a u shaped tube into the outside box. then it is ususally prefiltered by a sponge before going down to the sump.
as far as overflow box brands, amicale and cpr are both very good.
this is just a general idea, but again, ask in the equipment forum. you might want to search and find some diragrams to get a better visual idea. hth.
