Just wanted to start by saying thank-you to everyone who takes time to respond to all the cries for help here. I know it has help me. The problem i am having is noise from the overflow box, (flushing niose). I have just set up a sump system last night and the overflow box.(hang-on) I have a mag 12 with a eshopps, with (2) 1" bulkheads. It wasnt making the noise at first but then start and hasnt stop. I have heard from this site to insert airline tubing in the bulkheads? Is this right? I have tried it but with no luck. Am I doing something wrong or is there another way to stop this noise. This is a Fowlr system. I have the pump connected to a spray bar, it was kicking out mirco bubbles so i turned down the pump (valve) and it seemed to help a little. Any info would be a great help. Thanks

I dont know how to fiw the flushing sound on your over flow. On mine I installed a bigger bulkhead and that fixed it. As far as you micro bubble go. Do you have a baffle in your sump before you return pump. If not thats the problem. If you do try to have the water level high enough not to get a waterfall effect over the baffle. That cuases bubles to from in the return area to get sucked up by the pump.

Yes I have baffles in the sump and there is a waterfall effect. I will raise the water line a liitle to stop this. Thanks for the reply robertmathern

The tubing doesn't really go in the bulkhead but down the tube on the back part of the overflow. You have to move it around in there and trial different depths until you find it's "sweet spot", then secure it (I used a clip of sorts so I can adjust it easily).

Thanks Cranberry I'll try that. Your refering to the tube that the water enters into from the u tube. The tube that is inserted into the bulkheads.

Ah, now I know where the bulkheads are. Mine doesn't actually have bulkheads 'cause from the prehistoric age.
Yes, you are describing the correct tube.
There's isn't a large air bubble in the top of your U-tube, is there?

OK guys after numerous reading and the test the flushing part of the overflow is caused by air getting trapped in the tube going down to the sump. Once enough back pressure builds up all the air gets forced out and it starts again. Basicly creating a suckion of air and water with air trapped till enough water pressure builds to force the air out
That is why the water will rise and fall and you here flushing sound.
There a few ways to fix it.
1. is a durso pipe
2. is not makeing a straight run into the sump put a 45 onit or a flex hose.
3. is sump muffler.

There is no large air bubbles trapped in the u tube. Thanks Cranberry and Kamina. It has a straight run (vinyl tubing) into the sump. I will add something to break that suction and maybe redirect the path to the sump. Thank you for all your help with this matter.

I had the same problem with mine. I tried all kinds of things and what I finally wound up doing was getting some pvc the same size that it came with (I didn't want to mess up the pipe that came with it just in case my plan didn't work), got a couple pieces to plug the tops and drilled holes in the pvc so that the amount of water going down was minimized. It was alot of trial and error. There has to be just the right amount of holes or you'll still get the awful flushing noise. But it's working so far :)

Good idea Rwall. I might have some of the same size tubes. I give it a shot. Thanks

I think that I've got the same overflow as you...the pvc that comes with it is just a hair off the 1" that you'd get at Home Depot. The Home Depot guy found me some an isle over where they have the sink plumbing, it comes in about a 4 or 5 inch piece and the top is slightly wider, which worked out well as I was able to cram some other cap down into it to plug it up.
