overflow problem

My overflow box(from Amiracle 250) wont keep up with my mag drive(1800gph) I have to throttle back on the ball valve which cuts down on my overall tank turnover and water movement. I tried adding another syphon tube to the overflow but it looses its syphon from time to time . What can i do??

Try and lower the box inside the tank.

Your return pump is oversized for your prefilter/overflow.
The way I see it ... you basically have a couple of options.
Get a different return pump, such as a Mag 9.5
or
Get another overflow and run two of them in tandem.
As you've found out ... there's no way that a single Amiracle overflow will keep up with an 1800 gph return pump.
Even if it's a Magdrive 18 with considerable head pressure - the pump and overflow are a mis-match.
I run a dual 1" overflow on my 75 with two return pumps, and even that overflow is only rated for 1400 gph.

i'd listen to broomer, the owner of arguable the best tank i've ever seen. i patterned my new tank set up with sump, fuge after broom's 75.
