Overflow?

We just set up our sump and my overflow box is very loud. We have a U tube that siphons the water from the inner box to the outer box. In the outer box the U tube is in its own little box and the water runs over the side to the other half and down to the sump. The problem I have is that the water running from one side to the other is very loud. Could I out a piece of filter/batting to quiet it down? Any ideas how to make it quieter?

sounds like what we had. is it a HOB over flow? if it is. make sure the outside box that goes to the sump is level. meaning straight up and down with the tank. ours wasnt and it was suckin air. that "slurp" sound. we adjusted it and TADA no more slup
hope this helps

how far does the water fall from one chamber to the next? You can lenghten the standpipe by adding a piece of PVC, 4 or 5 inches high, so that chamber will fill up and eliminate the waterfall effect. You can also check out Stockman Standpipes and Hofer Gurgle Buster.
