overflowing skimmer

i have a coralife ss 65. its hanging on my sump and the water is about 6-7 inches deep. whenever i turn my skimmer on, the foam overflows into the collection cup even on the lowest setting. does anyone know what im doing wrong or have any ideas?

new skimmer? if so they have a break in period. also, the skimmer pickup tube/pump may be too low into your sump. try raising it up a few inches

+2 the pump should only be a few inches below the surface

Have you added any chemicals, or algea killer medication? when i added some to kill my slime algea it overflowed like that for 2 days. Also, a good way to keep it from over flowing on the floor is to take a drill, and drill a hole that is a little smaller than air line tubing into the collection cup, right below where the bubbles overflow. so that the hole is below the hole where the bubbles come out of, this insures that the filthy junk doesnt flow back into the tank. Then just put some airline tubing into the hole, and run the tubing into a jug, or bucket, and no more water on the floor if it ever does overflow!!!
I have the same skimmer adn it overflowed 2 times on me, so i decided to make this modification, works great!! just be careful to drill carefully and not crack the cup.
