Ozone question

I recently bought an ozone generator that I found on e-bay for cheep (brand new). It's a More-zon 10 and it doesn't have a control valve or really any info on it. I have read a bit about ozone generators, but I can’t find anything on the Net about this particular brand. Anyway, I connected it into my powerhead that feeds my protein skimmer and immediately an overwhelming smell that I would say was like an old fishing boat, started coming from the area of the protein skimmer. I’m not familiar with the smell of Ozone but I’m pretty sure it shouldn’t be this strong or repulsive. I shut it off because I know it can be harmful to the tank and me. I’m just wondering if anyone has had similar experiences with ozone and if you have any suggestions, particularly if this is safe. Also, if anyone has any info on the brand More-zon and how much ozone a more-zon 10 would produce. I assume between 25 to 50 grams per hour.
Also, my skimmer is after my rifugium just before it’s pumped up to the tank. Is it going to be alright having he ozone skimmer after the refugium? I do have a carbon filter just before the refugium. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Ozone smells like a copy machine or thunderstorm.. the "electric air smell"
Take a whiff of the air leaving the ozonizer, you will not mistake it for anything else.
The smell you are getting from the skimmer is probably the oxidized organics that normally would continue flowing thru your system. If it is the same smell as from the ozonizer itself start running the ozone on a timer so you don't overdose the ozone.
I think the More zon is by Aquatic Eco Systems in Apopka FL,. I believe it produces 10mg of ozone per hour.
Put a carbon filter on the effluent/outflow of your skimmer. This will prevent any unnecessary ozone from returning to your system. Overdosing ozone can kill your entire system.

To kill the smell
1. Run output water from skimmer over carbon, at a minimum put a carbon sock before the water return to the tank.
2. Put carbon over the skimmer lid, a lot of skimmer exits via the top of the lid
3. Try to find out what the mg/hr is on the unit.

Is it just the ozonizer or do you have a controller for it as well??? Wouldn't run it without a controller
