Ozone?

I was at a reef club last week, and the speaker really was in the tank for ozone. Does anyone use ozone, and do you have pics of your setups?

It's strange... it seems not many people here do.
I'm planning to use it on my new tank, but I don't currently.

I'd assume that to supply the O3 it doesn't use a tank just puts a charge through the air? And that you just run an air tube into your skimmer somehow?

Yes. You use an ozonizer to introduce ozone into the skimmer's air intake. Ozone cannot be bottled or otherwise stored, so it has to be generated as it's needed.
Ozone also makes most plastics brittle, so any airline hose, fittings, and of course your skimmer need to be designed for use with ozone.

But not enough to make your skimmer fall apart? I'd also assume that it would dissipate in the skimmer, entirely? What about dosage? Which unit are you looking at buying, or are you going to make one with your superior DIY skills.

I actually purchased two of them.
I ordered a Red Sea Aquazone (just the plain ozonizer) to use with a DIY controller I was planning.
Then when the controller's construction stopped being conducive to my timeline, I bought another Red Sea from a fellow reefer, this one with an ORP controller on board to use instead until my controller is ready for prime time.

How would you get it into your skimmer? Drill a hole in it and stick a little tube pumping ozone in it?

You can do that or you can just feed the ozone into the venturi air intake of your skimmer if you have one. I opted for the method you named. I drilled a hole in the top of my skimmer and ran an air line to the bottom and attached a bubbler tube. I started with an air stone but the ozone made it so brittle that within a few days it fell apart.

Your skimmer needs to be designed for ozone use to prevent it from being damaged by the ozone exposure.

I have used a room ozinator for a couple years at my place of work to help 'sterilize' the kennel air and keep the 'doggie/kitty' odors from growing to offensive levels. As with most larege kennel environments we used to see infrequent outbreaks of upper respiratory diseases. Since the ozinator was installed I have had none.
Home: I use a room unit in the 'refugium' room at home. Have no idea if enough gets into the water to help with sterilization but the refugium room 'smells' better.
I can attest that I have not had any problems with plastics exposed to it....but you will find anything that is 'rubber'...'rubber bands', gaskets, etc. will deteriorate quickly.

According the the manufacturer it is 03 safe. But at this point I'm still trying to find a cheep big tank.
