Painfully Obvious Lighting Question??

I really need help with this and I can't seem to find info anywhere....books, online, etc. There is a light fixture put out by All-Glass Aquarium brand which is a double light fixture. It comes with two GE bulbs which are nothing special and are about 25 watts each. I am looking for a 36" by the way and have a FOWLR tank and possibly am going to reef down the road, but for now this is only for fish, live rock, and anemones. Now, can I buy that light top and just purchase some bulbs that are like 100 watts each? Or will that explode and cause my whole apartment building to burn down while I'm at work tomorrow? I am looking to get one 100w white and one 100w actinic bulb. Is it that easy or do I need to do something else? Please help??? Thanks, Jeff Jeff903@aol.com

Unless the BALLAST inside this hood is rated for two 100 watt bulbs,,This will NOT work. These 100 watt bulbs will only be half illuminated(if they light up at all).....The bulbs MUST match the output of the ballast...

A standard dual light fixture for a 36" hood will take 2 30watt bulbs and thats all it will take. As mentioned above if you wish to have more intense lighting the proper ballast will be required.
All glass aquarium offers power compact light hoods which can hold more intense lighting and this may be a good choice for you.
There are many lighting options available. Do some research and find what will best work for you.
Good Luck!!
