Painting back of tank...

If the tank is new (i.e. empty), I used flat black high quality spray paint on both of mine (stay away from the 1.99 home depot spray paint). If it is set up already I am not sure how you would do it.

I agree with the 1.99 brand. Spend the extra money on Krylon or such its worth the money. Also dont worry about using semi gloss or gloss as the tank is shiny and Flat is usually less expensive.
Also be sure to tape off the top of the tank so no overspray gets inside.

Gloss paint tends to have a higher viscosity. Flat paint will lay on better. Wash the glass well and whipe it off with an alcohol pad if you have one. tape it off and make your fisrt coat thin. You can put heavier coats on the more teh glass is covered.
You could just put it on with a brush too. If you choose to go that way.

I used rustoleum on the back of mine and rolled it on. Covered well and has held up partiularly well over a number of years.

I used a product made by Rust-Oleum called Appliance Epoxy Ultra-Hard Enamel. Its comes in a spray can and is sold at Lowes for a few $$.If i remember correctly it costs around $5.So far i havent been able to scratch or damage it with mag-float,i even tried scratching it with my finger nail and it didnt cause any damage.
