paired up clowns?

there are many more variables outside of timing -- comparative size, history, etc.
as far as timing goes, i believe that as long as the clownfish you get earlier isn't alone in the tank long enough, they should get along ... assuming they're the same type of clown. if you have other fish in the tank with the clown or it is only alone for a few weeks, i don't think you'll have a problem.

yeah i have two fish in my tank right now (30g). im going to get one clown probably this week and one the following. i should just make sure they are the same size and from the same tank in order for them to pair up right or wrong?

The first clown needs to be bigger than the second added. The bigger will be or turn into a female, and the smaller will be a male. Males can turn into females, but once a female always a female. The tank they came from makes no difference otherwise.
Even so, male and female clowns will not always pair up, so the answer to your first question is: maybe.

yes, what viper said. if they are the same size (same gender), they will have violent fights until one establishes dominance.
but you won't need to worry about timing.

i dont think the first has to be bigger, i got 2 false perc's about 1 1/2 years ago they were both the same size, and one recently changed into female and the other male before, (tear) :...(, my female tragically dissappeared, but i did buy em at same size

When they're bought at the same time, one of the two clowns will become dominant and change to a female and the other a male.
A lone clown turns to female, so therefore if another clown is added at a later time it needs to be smaller and will become a male if not already.

well, you can do that. it's just not recommended because they'll fight initially ... more so than clowns of differing sizes.
