pairing up

How do you know if your clowns have paired. If they are paired, will they automatically breed, or only if conditions are right?
I have 2 clowns I bought at the same time around Dec. They wre little. They were doing that twitchy thing for a while and now one of them trys to throw herself on top of my thermometer or my wave maker nozzel. My friend says she is trying to lay eggs, but I'm not too sure.
I only have a 12 gal. and wasn't planning on breeding. BUT if they are breeding and may lay eggs I don't want the poor things to die, so I want to be ready if it happens.
Any info would be great.

most likely, they are still too young to be breeding. one of mine is a year old and they still aren't. They do the body twitching all the time, and fan the sand all over the place. most likely, your fish will lay them and the eggs will develop, and the fish fry will become food for the other fish inhabitants. You gotta be completely setup with a fish rearing tank and eveyrthing if you want to breed them.
