In a word...nope.
Par doesn't matter. Par is what the human eye see's, Lumens is light intensity that corals feed off.
Its lumens that you need.
Unfortunately a lumen meter is about 10x the price of a par meter. So determine how many lumens that bulb emits would be tough to tell. But...if I was a guessing person...i would say the lumen reading is about 70% of what the par claimsbut there is alot of complicated math involved(water depth, source, brand ect) so you cant really convert it in your head accurately
.Im just trying to give you an idea of what it looks like.
For reef keeping 180 lumens would be low...but doable.(350-450 would be Ideal)
So considering that....the bulb you asked about would only produce a fraction of what you would need.
Even on a 10g, your not even going to have enough power to grow anything other than macro algae.

WOW!!!!
You got the backwards Just swap the words PAR and Lumen around

Check out Nano Tuners PAR 38 lamps. They indeed do have enough for a 10 gallon tank. They use 5 Cree LED's in those. Slightly different animal than you find at Lowes

AS for this..... I been at the computer all night, sorry.
Happens when your posting at 3 AM, and you've been at it since dinner the night before.
Its now almost noon for me ^_^, what can I say. Im a nerd with no life.
And onto the topic:
PArtialy right...
Lumen/PAr meters measure what plants eat. To say I got it backwards...well. I got it wrong, not backwards ^_^....again. 3am.
Lux measures how intense the light is(this is the stuff the human eye processes)....aka the cheapo $90 meters that really only tell you when its time to buy new bulbs. Much much cheaper than a PAR/Lumen meter. THATS what I was thinking in my head, Its LUX that is inaccurate, not par. PAR and LUMEN=good readings.
I went though a bout of this a few months ago. Long story short, I had to accept the facts that I wasnt getting my hands on an accurate measurement of what my corals are getting, since I couldnt drop a massive wad of cash.

You had the description perfect, just flopped the words

I checked the PAR on a standard Phillips PAR 38 which had really tight optics 7 one watt LED's. It was doing in the 220 at 17 inches which is even enough to grow SPS corals but because the focus was so tight you would need a lot of them. The Nano Tuners PAR 38 uses wider optics with much better LED's. According to Evil who is their LED guru one of those will light up a 12x12 area really good. Might take 2 to fully light a 10 gallon but 250 bux for being able to have halide performance for less than 50 watts of power is a winner.

If anyone is really interested I could PM to some nice informative reading about PAR/LUX/LUMEN/PUR.
But its on a Marijuana growing site...so may be offensive to some.

I gotta get with evil and bribe him to design me an LED system for my 125.
Id like to have it finished by summer. My head hurts trying to soak all this stuff in.

If you are serious about a LED fixture I can point you in the right direction to build your own, you will need at least a grand to play with to do it right.

absolutely!
Ive read a half dozen led builds already. Soundwave has one of the best matches to what I need. But then again, its still not perfect for my system. At any rate, pm me with whatever you had in mind. Hopefully its something I haven't come across yet.
I figured it would cost around $800-900 for the main components, plus an extra hundred or so for the misc wires ect.
Anyways...thx a bunch.
PS...I used your avatar on my last school presentation.
I was comparing ancient mythological tricksters to 20th century tricksters.
It only seemed fitting I mention Obama ^_^

I thought par 38 referred to the physical setup of the bulb. The size of the base and so one.
As opposed to the type and amount of light produced which is our more normal par.
