hours later they come in and tell me she is anemic...hmmm well appt with a doc and since we moved i guess we will have to shop around here to find one, anyone else anemic? what is your diet like?

Jenny...it seems it's just not ending for you yet. Can't help on this one, but I can say, you wouldn't be given this series of events if you couldn't handle it. Don't pull your hair out, just keep dealing with it one thing at the time

Still praying/supporting you

more meat and eggs will help get her iron levels up and maintained if it is anemia as a result of iron deficiency. Vitamin C also helps in the absorbtion of iron. Have her drink lots of orange juice.

I have been told that I am anemic although I do not really believe it. I don't really do anything special as far as my diet is concerned but I always take a Flintstone's children vitamin everyday.

most cases are low levels of Iron... basically the blood doesnt have enough oxygen or the means to carry oxygen thoughout...
sorry to hear this Jenny...

I've only ever had an anemic dog and I don't think your daughter would like the liver recipe I had for him... but here is an interesting smoothie recipe she might like (if you don't tell her there are prunes in it!)
Adios Anemia
1/2 cup vanilla yogurt, lowfat
1 cup vanilla soy milk
1/3 cup prunes -- (pitted, rehydrated if necessary)
1 whole banana, frozen -- sliced
2 ice cubes -- crushed (2 to 4)
Combine the yogurt and soy milk in a blender. Add all the remaining ingredients. Blend until smooth.

Check out some of the online resources like allrecipes.com for more she might like. I'd imagine she's feeling really crappy right now but it'll get better.
Good luck!

While it's not a great situation, there are a lot worse things she can be suffering from. Most important is to keep the iron up. I'm borderline anemic and I just take an iron supplement every day and actively keep an eye on my consumption of iron-rich foods (red meats, eggs, etc). She'll start to get a feel for it and realize when she's feeling sluggish or worn out that she needs more iron in her system.
Also, B vitamins help a lot too but it's going to come down to what type of anemia she has. More than likely it's just a matter of actively taking some vitamins every day and she'll have a perfectly normal life.
Interesting tidbit: I can also tell if my iron is low with this little trick I learned - rub a gold ring/necklace (has to be real gold - generally 14 karat or higher) on your hand or cheek and if it turns a blackish color your iron is low. The cheek is a better judge than the hand and it rubs right off.

My ex-wife is anemic. She took iron vitamin pill.s regularly and was ok. My sister is as well, but she has a real problem taking pill.s so she just eats a lot of chicken.... like a lot. I hope things get better/easier.

I don't know about the anemia, as you know there are worse things that could have caused her to pass out. But why is she flashing a gang sign while she is in the hospital?

haha thats a peace sign she just got stuck in that arm, wal mart risk management called haha i thought that was funny ,they had me sign a ton of papers like i was gonna sue or something .her doc was such a guido like the hulks little brother, we are gonna up the fruits and veggies (because it is a lack of b12 and iron) maybe try to maybe take a healthy/natural approach to this, picky eater though she only wants to eat junk so this is gonna be fun
Keri, how does that smoothie taste? yeah it was sooooo not as bad as it couldve been , all is well though shes feeling much better today

I haven't actually tried it but really it looks pretty good, you could always add some strawberries or something to punch it up a little too.

Obviously her doctors will have recommendations based on your specific situation, but I'd be wary of Iron supplements for fear of taking too much and increasing your risk of heart disease. If it's iron related, I'd personally try to get my iron from delicious fooooood than

.

total calls from wal mart today =5 wow has the world really gotten that bad ? so we are going to try the natural approach with the foods instead of

[hr]
. we have salad night already once every week but were gonna go for 2-3 nights a week now and were gonna lower our sodium intake cause the doc says it would be better for her as an anemic to have an overall healthier diet .no more cokes though
or dr pepper just tea ,milk ,and juices. my cousin told me peanut butter is a good source of iron too so yay!

Prunes are actually really tasty, quite to my surprise (this thread made me try one) and the peace sign is a "gang" symbol if its sideways

being a picky eater myself i can completely understand that!! if red meat is not an option (i've found that my best energy booster - just not in excess) the supplements and vitamins work just as well for me. The only thing is I HIGHLY recommend taking them with food. I've noticed that I'll sometimes get sick to my stomach if I take my B vitamins without eating something substantial. Also, wait about 30 minutes after eating to take it. A lot easier than choking down food you don't like! At least in my opinion anyways...
