This Summer My family is going to be going on a cruise. I need a passport as do most of us. Not in a hurry like some people waiting till the last minute but where do I go that is simple and not a drawn out thing? My DMV Post Office?

you can get your picture at Walgreens also. Not all post offices do it. Generally the bigger ones do. Its easy and generally takes about 4-5 weeks.
Expensive though!

You can fill out all your passport forms online on the US Gov site. Print them out, and get two passport photos at your local CVS, Wally World, or grocery store that takes them. Contact your local post office and make an appointment to go in and submit the docs. Since they're requiring you to have a passport just to drive across the Mexico and Canadian border, the post offiices can get backed up for requests, depending on how close you live to one of these borders. I think thr cost is $85 per passport (The price is on the forms). You also need a copy of your birth certificate, which they will have to submit with your application (you'll get it back when they send you your passports). When you go online, you can get an estimated time of how long it'll take to get it. The average is around 6 - 8 weeks. If you get it right now, it may take a little less.

I recently renewed mine, it took 2 weeks. Don't use the Post Office for the pictures. They wanted to charge more than twice what walgreens charged.
But that being said, my brother did his about 6 months before his trip, and ended up having to drive from Tulsa to houston to get his made immidiately...
But that was around the time they decided to make us use passports for mexico...

AAA also takes pics, its like 7 bucks for members and 10 for non i think
they told me it would take 6 weeks but I think it took more like 4
and dont forget to get your visa if you are spending time in any country that requires it, most visas can be purchased online

9 or 10 day cruise leaves from Baltimore. Goes to the St Thomas Puerto Rico Haiti and one other place.
Then you don't need a passport book - a passport card will do for Caribbean destinations, and it's cheaper.
