I used to have a paypal account, and i started getting emails from them saying my account had possibly been tampered with. i cancelled it because i didn't want my checking account to be wide open to anyone. now, i'm finding out that paypal is sometimes the only thing accepted, and i've been asked a bunch of times if i accept paypal.
anyone have any good/bad to say about it?

It used to be unreliable and not very secure, but now it seems like they have really taken precautions to amp up the security of the system. I have not gotten any of those emails in a long time.

Paypal is totally ligit and trust worthy. The emails you are getting likely aren't actually from Paypal. It is a phishing scam. Typically the emails appear to be authentic and they want you to login and verify your account. In actuality the link will take you to a fake site setup to look like paypal. Then you enter your credentials and they got you.

Yep, I used to get those, but then I would also get follow up emails from PayPal telling me that these phishing scams existed and that Paypal would never ask me via email for my information or to login and verify my account. That way, anyone who received those emails, knew just to delete them.
I have not gotten either email for a long time.

AMAZING if you use an advanced web-browser called FIREFOX,, it will actually tell you that it thinks that particular or similar website is possibly a fraud and to proceed with caution, How it does this I dont know, but thats what i call a web browser lending a helping hand.

Yep, I love firefox. I refuse to use Internet Explorer. Firefox is just so much more convenient and safe. Plus, when I am bored, I love to use "Stumble Upon" (a Firefox add-on) to find websites that I never would have seen before.

when you get those emails its not from paypal its from a fisher that has looked up your email on line and then checked to see if you have a paypal and sent a message like that. It doesnt take long to find out if you have an account by attempting a funds transfer it will tell you if they have it or not then send the fraudulant email to them and away you go.
I have used them for several years and have never had a problem with it or any fraud problems.

I've used it for a few years now and never had a problem. I do not keep money in the account, at all times tho. If I find something I want, I transfer money in.
The only thing I don't like is that when someone transfers money to you, it takes 3 - 4 business days (most of the time 4) to get the money transfered to your bank account from PayPal.
I just recently sold my big skimmer to a fellow board member and we used PayPal, with no problems.

none of those sites will ask you to log in. A friend of mine is a big seller on that big auction site. She was phised and paniced and logged on. Needless to say it was months of straightening out financial problems.

If you put your mouse over the link they send, it will not say Paypal, visa, mastercard,

[hr]
company etc.

Have any of you disputed a charge through Paypal? I had a friend of mine get scammed by a guy she was trying to buy a computer from. Paypal didn't help her at all. Wondering if that is also the norm.

I've disputed a couple times. Once I just was never send a power head, I opened a dispute and the guy never reponded once or send anything. It was ruled in my favor, but since they he didn't have any money in his paypal account they would not refund anything.
Later he sold something, and paypal refunded me the money. I was happy to get the money but it took several months. That wasn't cool. I still use it, because for the most part it is ok. But if you have to call them get ready to talk to someone from banglore who is reading a script.

Paypal will never send you an email asking you to click something. They will tell you to manually goto the paypal site and log in.
I have used paypal dozens of times. One time I even recieved a broken cell phone from an auction site. I called paypal and told them and they froze the seller's bank funds until he replaced it.
