PC vs T5

Hello,
Between a 6 bulb 96W PC fixture and a 12x39WT5 fixture, which would be better for keeping sps and clams? The fixture would be for a 125G tank.What are the advantages and disadvantages of T5's vs PC's?

PC fixtures will not support SPS and clams long term.

As long as you get a good T5 system they will destroy PC's. Even a cheap T5 system has a lot of advantages but I wouldn't try to raise high light critters under a cheap T5 system either.

ok thanks, another question, between a 72 " current nova extreme pro which has 12x39W or 2 48" Sun Blaze 48 8 lamp fixture which would you pick for a 125G with sps and clams,the nova has less watts but includes seperate switch for actinic and daylight lights with a timer. The sunblaze has one switch for all lights. Which one s better In your opinions?

t5 12x39w is better than the 6x96w pc. the t5 is also more energy efficient. have u looked at sunpower or tek elite t5? they r better t5 fixtures.

Neither. I wouldn't try clams with a Nova. You should be looking at a Tek 6x80 60" fixture at a minimum, Personally I'd go with the ATI Sunpower 6x80. The 60" lamps light a 72" tank pretty good.

For SPS and clams then I agree with reefraff...you'll want to look into a 6 bulb ATI Powermodule or Sunpower fixture. Other fixtures just don't have the power or put out the par required to keep those types of creatures without having to keep them on the top half of your tank. Even then you're pushing it with a lesser fixture.

thanks guys, i have been trying to decide for a light fixture for a while, i will look into the sunpower and a tek.

Might i ask why on the Nova? It has everything that a tek light has except LED moonlights.
Its got individual reflectors Ect. Good light.

Not all reflectors are made the same. A 6 lamp Nova Pro, even with cooling couldn't match the output of a Tek light which isn't cooled, Difference is Tek uses the special material in their reflector which is also a better design.
