pencil urchin eating corraline

I have a pencil urchin and I herd that they eat corraline. Is this true. I have had alot of trouble with growing corraline. Should I get rid of him I have very little corraline if any right at this time.

I don't have an urchin but have also heard the same thing about eating the corraline. you may have to choose between the two.

NR I have a few urchins , type pencil, purple, and pin and they all eat coraline..

I never had the pencil urchin, but had 2 pincushion urchins. If the pencils are like the pincushions, coraline will be ate. Its up to you what you want to do, this was just my experience. HTH

my old lfs told me it wasn't a problem. urchins don't eat coraline algae, but i kept telling them the five little scratch marks all over the coraline were not from the fish. i sold it back, lo and behold, it is growing again.

They do eat coraline, but some people argue that they help spread the spores also, helping more grow.
