Penguin 330 and Penguin 350 power filters

Its a 37 gallon, I just noticed that the 330 was no longer sold.... and the 350 looks like it is built a little different. Didn't know if there was a problem and thats why they re-designed it or it was just time for a new model.

No the penguin has redesigned their products and changed the look but they are basically the same. You might get a little more GPH and I know that the 350 has the clear covers over the wheels. I have the original 330 in my calvus cichlid tank and I have had it for over 6 years and its still running like a charm.
I have the penguin 200 in my 46gallon and it has more room in the back behind the blue cartridge to put other media. I put flu val canister filter polisher pads back there occasionally and I also put a bag of purigen back there. Some people even put some bio balls there. You cant put more then 1 thing behind the filter though or it will over flow.
The larger ones come with baskets to put your own media in which I like. I did not get the large one because I am only using this for a media thing not really filtration. The cartridge is great for picking up debrees and catching algae that I scrape off. The flu val polishing pads work wonders on the algae too. You just have to change out that pad every couple of days so you dont create the whole nitrite/nitrate cenario.

LOL! I'm still trying to get use to this. I got bio-carb in the back baskets on mine. I read somewhere that that was good. I hope so. So many different sites. so many different opinions. Thats why I stuck to this site. but I'm learning things now that I didn't know before.
My uncle did this for a long time. He recently gave me my lights and a 30 gallon with stand, visi jet protein skimmer (read here not so great)! and a penguin 200. But I totally put that on hold. You know, I Have my own pool company out here in Dallas, chemical readings and all that come natural, b ut you know! I'm so use to having a pool clean and done in one day! LOL.
Where can I get those flu val polishing pads? I can look it up, but if you knew off hand
But is there a such thing as over doing it? LOL

The polishing pads are listed for the 304/305 and the 404/405 flu val canister filters. I get mine at ***** but you can pretty much get them anywhere. I only use 1 for 2-3 days after I have moved stuff around in the tank or when I was having an algae break out it would catch the algae that i scrapped off the glass. I also used the smallest purigen bag they have. I could only get those on an aquarium site. They also sell it in the bottle but you have to purchase your own sack to put it in.
Just make sure you take your wheels out. You dont need those.
I have an octopus 100ss skimmer and it has worked great so far.

Are you saying to get rid of the wheels on my 330? I thought that was good? I'm lost. lol. this filter is one of the first things i had going in this tank, did research elsewhere i guess. What are the disadvantages of them?

Everyone told me that they harbor nitrates or nitrites (forgot which one)
I was also told on other boards not just this one.
You need to be able to change out all media in these filters so it does not do this. For instance, I put a new blue filter in mine once a month, and rinse them 2 a week. When I used the polishing pads I would rinse those in my faucet every day.
