Penguin Biowheel

I have just bought a 30L used tank. It came with a Penguin BioWheel. My thought is just to use LR, DSB and a skimmer for filtration. Would it help to use this biowheel? My initial thought is to not use it.

I would agree that there would be no need for the biowheel. I would think the only benefit from the biowheel would be water movement, but you probably plan on getting or already have powerheads.

Using the biowheel would not be a good idea, as the wheel would end up with most of the bacteria for the tank(most O2). The best bet would be to throw the wheel away and only used the LR/LS

I have 2 Penguin biowheels on my 125 gallon, i use them for water movement, and did take the wheel parts off. They keep the surface water moving nicely and I like the sound they make, like a waterfall.

i agree with sterling. take off the wheel and use it for cirulation only. surface movement is the key to oxygen exchange in your water, so the more the better.
