perc acting weird

I have had 2 false percs in my 46 bowfront since fathers day.
For the past two days the female (I am assuming b/c it is the larger of the 2) has been hanging out in the top back corner of my tank,, above a ph (near the surface). No major outward signs of distress (good color, no spots), but she has not been eating today. There is a "stringy thing" (techinical I know) hanging from her belly. I thought it was waste, but it has been there awile.
Water quality is good, (trates are slightly high at around 20 but they have been there for a while)?
Any ideas what is going on?

Try to get a picture. My guess sight unseen would be a parasite. Are the inverts in the tank? I would assume an anemone. I would suggest quarentine and treatmen with a copper based med.
