hey everyone, i haven't been on in a while. i had 2 percs but one died. the one i have was slightly larger than the other, and has been by itself for about 2 months. is it too late to add another smaller perc? or should i get a different kind of fish? the one i have is about an inch long. any thoughts would be great.

Do you know why the perc died?
You should be ok to add a smaller one of the same species, if you are looking for them to pair.

Keep a close eye on them to make sure the new one does not get beat up to bad. There will be some fighting....

I agree, they should be fine together once they get used to each other. Don't forget to QT the new clown. If the new one brings in something (god forbid brooklynella) your current one will be at risk and I am sure you don't want that to happen.

It is the end of brooknyella season so be on the look out, ask your LFS to hold a new (smaller) one for a couple weeks as a quarantine if you lack one., I just lost one new clown to brook, yes sep, it did endup as brook, and I lost another to a serious flesh eating fungal infection, brought by the new one.

I don't currently have a qt tank, so i would have to set one up, but i will ask my lfs if they can qt one for me so i don't have to set up a whole new tank. although it wouldn't be that hard for me to do it, and i'm in no rush hehe. although, it might be hard to find a smaller perc seeing as mine is already small lol

For what it's worth. I was in the same situation. I went into the LFS looking for a smaller one as mine is pretty small also. The guy there said that I should get a slightly larger one so that it could protect itself if the established one got territorial or whatever. I put the new one in there and the little one got so excited I think he would have wet himself if that's possible. Anyway they are getting along fine so far.
