perc or possom?

I have a perculla that goes to the top of my 40gal. when the lights are turned off. When they come on in the AM, he will come down and swims with a school of chromis. but before he does i swear he looks dead. He lays on his side up by the PH, just floats there. He eats, and seems fine during the day but every night when when I turn out the lights I worry. water params- nitrites-0, Amon.-0, nitrates-15-20, PH-8.2
I have a large power filter with undergravel filter, approx 20lbs LR, 4 inches CC substrate. 1 PH with wavemaker.
5-chromis, 1-perc, 1-skipper blenny, 1-banded serpant, 6-hermit crabs, 4-sm. snails (not turbos), and 2 anenomies.
the tank has been up & running 1yr. now. I have not been able to keep the nitrate under 15-20, and I have to watch the PH or it will climb to 8.8, I due regular 25% water changes atleast every 2-weeks and maintain 0.023 salinity topping off with fresh dechlorinated water as needed. What am I missing?

Sounds like a normal perky clownfish to me. They have some strange sleeping habbits if they don't get an anemone. And they do seem to love those PHs.
I wouldn't worry at all about this, as long as the fish is otherwise healthy and eating.

Continuing worrying. It means you are on the look out to keep your fish healthy and will be diligent.
