Percula Clown questions

My daughter want a "nemo" fish for her tank. I have two quick questions:
1. Do perculas do OK without an anemone host?
2. Do they do better singly or in pairs?
A quick response would be appreciated. She wants me to take her the the LFS today.

Yes they can live quite fine without a host
One can live fine, two should be purchased together as a young couple, and two are fun to watch.

Well, if you are talking about false percula clowns, then the answer is YES, they do well without an anemone. As for percs being better in singly or pairs. They can do well both ways. But if you have enough then you should go with a pair. As they do better and may become a mated pair. You should go for false percs because as i heard, true perculas are harder to care for.

As for another thing, has your tank cycled? You shouldn't purchase any fish before your tank has cycled as this may led to disaster.

as far as the anemone goes i would stay away from them for one they usually dont last long term in the aquarium and also most of the tank raised clowns have never seen one and therefore never go to it

they can do fine without an anenome host, they may in fact find something else as a host, any similar shaped coral.
