Im about 3 weeks away from buying a juvenile pair of percula clowns and I need to know
1. what type of anenomae do they prefer?
2. Is one anen enough for 2 clowns?
If I only have base rock in my tank, is that ok, or does the anen need live rock?
PS - Lighting suggestion for only the anen?

are the prec's tank rasied? mine was, and didn't need (or want) an anenomae, as it was not used to to since it was rasied in a tank without one. Just something to keep in mind. (I don't know if this is true for other prec's), I'm sure someone will say if it is.

chris, i highly reccommend against putting anemones in a tank(different story), but i know for a fact that i would not even be looking into them for at least a year, you have to get your tank well established fisrst, which takes about a year, more or less, and i don't care if anyone knows some miracle to cycle and or mature a tank in a day, you cannot mature a tank enough to keep an anemone any faster tahn that(i say thatbecause i have heard others(not you) say they matured a tank in 1 week with......), anemones are very delicate and have special needs, not only your experience, and don't live as long as they should in an qwuarium(very few people can keep them for even a year and less can for 2, which is nothing)
i would personally do alot of research(not just askin on boards) before even considering one
to answer your questions, percs seem to like carpets, and 1 would be enough for a pair of percs

edited: most clowns, itis hit and miss whether or not htey will take a host anemone(some do, some don't, no way to tell) but percs will do more than fine without one(esp. if it is tank breed), and many even take to soft corals as well

I used to have a clown that loved my long tenticle plate coral. I personally wouldn't put an anemone in my tank as mentioned above. They need strong lighting, and most don't live too long. Also, if they die, they can release toxins that can kill most of your livestocks. That what happened to me. Try using corals instead of anemones. Good luck.

Thanks for the advice. It was the most valuable kind; the kind that kept me from wasting more $$$ and getting down on my fish-keeping skilz!
Thanks -
Chris

I have 2 anemones in my tank right now... I don't think I'd ever buy another one. I have a large green carpet that neither of my clowns like and I have a flower anemone. I've had in the past a long tentacle, a sebae, another purple long tentacle anemone.... Key word is the past!!! The Long tentacle died and wiped the whole tank out!!! Almost all the fish got ich and the tank stunk like $#!T !!!

actually if anyone is interested in purchasing my carpet anemone from me that would be awesome. It typically sells in LFS around here for about 70-85 dollars...I've seen smaller ones with less colors that go for 77.99 at a LFS. I'd sell it for a lot less of course! If you want to see a pic click on the link in my signiture...it's in the right side pic and the carpet anemone pic.
