I have read that percula clowns do the best with carpet anemones?
Is this fact of fiction?
how big do carpet anemones grow? what is the minimum size tank to keep one?

Carpets get big and fast up to 2 ft in diameter. One of the Perc's natural hosts is a carpet, you are correct. Do they do best with them? I can only assume that they will host it but there is no guarantee. Minimum tank size is 40gals. These are noted to be one of the more hardier clown anemones.

The natural host for Perculas are Heteractis magnifica or Stichodactyla mertensii . Which are the most difficult to keep IMO. I have several pairs of Perculas which have accepted Stichodactyla haddoni and others that have accepted Entacmaea quadricolor aka BTA . Then again I have a pair that haven`t accepted anything so far .

I have 2 pair with heteractis magnifica aka ritterai. Very hard anemone to keep but very beautiful. Both pairs hosted it almost immediately.
My carpet ate one of my clowns and a dragon wrasse!

A. percula also host Heteractis crispa, commonly called a Sebae anemone, in the wild. IMO, all of these natural hosting anemones are difficult to keep in captivity unless you have large systems and much experiance.....I would even recomend the same for the more considered easier BTA, that in captivity, Percs have/do ( but as Dark said, no guarantees ) host in.

I have a pair of percs and a pair of occs. clowns that host carpets (2) in my tank. I have had great luck with the carpets but have heard horror stories. My percs. were hosting a gbta but as soon as the carpet arrived they packed up and moved to the carpet while I was placing it in my tank. I can also say that they will eat anything that gets to close, the carpet. I have lost 2 tangs, a fairy wrasse, 3 lawnmower blennys and 6 firefish to the carpets over the last two years. I guess what I am saying is don't crowd leave plenty of room for your fish to stay away from the carpets.

carpets can get the size of a large pizza. My LFS has one in a 14g bio cube, it looks awesome and he has 3 perculas hosting it. The anemone covers all the rock and sand. He has it under MH. It is neon green and the clowns look so cool in it. Not something i would do with my tank but it is still cool.
