I have a 24" 20 watt flourescent bulb lighting my tank. Can the wattage be increased w/o changing my hood. My goal is to have LR, feather dusters and C.B.shrimp. Thanks in advance.
Matt:
Without calling the comapany I would imagine a ballast like that is only rated for so many watts and amps. It would be a risky venture to try to get more watts out of it by pullin more juice through it. Most of the bigger bulbs, meaning watts are just that- longer. So unless you took the whole thing apart and seperated the caps, I don't think it could be done anyways.

They make several different types of "retro-fit" compact flourescents that would work in your current hood. You would have to take out the current bulb and balast than put in the retro kit. They may sell them in the dry goods section of this site or try www.petsolutions.com
But if all you want is L.R. featherdusters, and shrimp than you don't need to upgrade your lighting as what you have will be fine.
