Perm smell..on uncured LR?

I have been curing my 50 lbs of LR for a month and 1 week. 2 rocks have lots of purple on them, but they still seem to have a 'perm' smell to them. When somebody gets a perm..yeah etc. It smells like that. Does that mean its still curing. I checked the nitrites and they are about .6, they are dropping now. They were still spiked higher than my readings read. So that is a good thing. I am worried about the smell, because I am going to place them in my tank once the nitrites go to 0. I know i know, I should wait for the nitrates to drop, BUT Henry said that I can place them directly in my DT once the nitrites drop after I wash them off good.
Can anyone help me out on this one? Henry?

do you have a heater and a powerhead in there to move the water around and are you doing water changes?
If yu are doing all of this it should not have taken 5 weeks to cure the LR???

I have had a power head in there for 31 days, and a heater at 81 degrees. I have done 3 water changes. 2 small changes at first. 2 gallons each time, its in a 20 gallon container, and about 6 gallons the final time, I have done everything I was suppose to.
