PEX piping?

Has anyone used PEX piping to plumb in your sump / fuge? It seems like it would be a heck of a lot easier than using PVC. I have used it in my house during a remodel, so I already have the crimping tools. I was thinking of giving it a try for a new sump. I cant think of any reason it wouldn't work, but I would like to see if anyone has already done this before I learn another expensive lesson.

the brass fittings would be questionable and copper crimping rings I wouldnt unless you can avoid these 2 things

the brass fittings come in contact with the water so i would avoid it (crimmping rinngs dont touch the water). look into spa flex if you dont like regular flexible tubing

dont remember if its a brand name or common name or both but its sold at hd. i havent used it but its being used more and more if fish tanks. it can be used with hose barbs but most people seem to recomend glueing it. search this forum and the other big forum and you should be able to get some more specific info.

spa I believe is home depot's version of PEX. the only true makers or PEX are wirsbo. anything else is something different. HE-PEX or heat peat is used for heating and cooling systems. I would strongly reccomend using the HE-PEX. most places sell it in 100ft 300ft and 1000ft rolls. I would suggest using the plastic fittings since you wouldnt be using much pressure anyways... and if you want to do it correctly the first time... DONT use the cheap crimp fittings... Wirsbo pulled it from there line for a reason. get the expander or rent the expander you wont regreat it

eh different people.... different opinions lol your never gonna make me say the crimp fittings and ring are good... I have used them, done houses in Pex both ways and had to return for call backs on the ones with crimps. I now sell PEX and other stuff for a plumbing supply house in the area.

spa flex is a different product than pex. i believe it only comes in larger sizes like 1" or 1 1/2 ". i saw the expanding style pex fittings on tv and they help with the water flow loss that the crimp fitting have cause they are only about 3/8 inside the fittings. i have never had any problems yet with crimping but the expanding fittings are only special order around me so unless i keep a selection of all types around i have to wait a day or 2 to get new fittings.

wow thats really weird! different places use different fittings I guess... and a commercial??? thats awesome! I have never seen one up here either. maybe its time to move!! I will check tomorow but I think Wirsbo (PEX) makes large diameter piping... we have some 2" brass fittings not sure if there for PEX tho

maybe it is slightly different... the ones I speak of are cheap little aluminum crimp rings...
I really am not trying to start anything with anyone at all, just saying I have been around eh stuff for a while now and have seen both ways done and prefer and would only recommend the expander personally. sorry if someone got offended

wow didnt know they made alluminum crimp rings thats pretty soft metal for holdin back water. the ones i have used are brass either painted black or natural gold color. if you look into spa flex it is a system that can be glued or clamped and hose barb but the glue is a better way.

ya maybe thats why I am not liking the crimp ones tho..... still seems like expand would hold more pressure and flow more water

The crimp rings that I used in my house were brass and painted black. The tool to crimp them is pretty heavy duty and cost about $120.
I would think in either case the flow would be similar because the inlet holes on fittings are smaller in diameter than the hose.
