PH and Alkalinity

I am fairly new to this but this a couple things I am not sure of.
What is a good PH and Alk?
How do you raise and lower PH?
How do you raise and lower Alk?

pH is the power of Hydrogen...its either neutral, alkaline, or acidic
neutral is 7.0 higher is alkaline, and lower is acidic
saltwater aquariums should be between 7.8 to 8.4 depending on what you have in your tank...

alkalinity is the measure of carbonate hardness
aquarium salt helps get the pH up there. commercial buffers are made to raise pH and keep it up.
