Is it 7.8 in the morning and 8.2 at night?
If so, it is normal to have a pH swing in this way. I'm not sure whether 7.8 to 8.2 is an "acceptable" swing though - others may know better.

I suspect carbon dioxide is building up and causing the lower ph. You might want to add to or expand your plant life. that will consume more carbon ddioxide and the ph will rise.

Ain't that the truth. That is one reason for refugiums.
When I finally got substained macros in the display, it was because I cultured them in another container and transferred some each week to the display. Now I have that culture tank plus an external refugium and and in tank back wall refugium.
And daytime ph has remained at 8.4 just before lights out.
plus the fish especially the yellow tang are thriving.

A couple things:
Welcome to the Boards! This is a great place to be and ask questions.
Second . . . I warn you now . . . Beaslbob's methodologies have been repeatedly proven to be not only false, but detrimental to your system. I would strongly advise gathering all the facts you can before making a decision to follow his advise.
Now . . . about pH . . . I am unfamiliar with the osmo prep you mentioned, however I use RO water and have for wuite some time and never have used such a product.
Secondly, when you test at 2:00, how long have your lights been on at that point? pH is typically lowest at night and higher during the daytime hours as photosynthesis resumes in the light loving animals.
If it were me, at this point I would not add any buffers to anything. I would continue to change water with unbuffered RO water and IO salt as you are already doing. This way, you can determine one by one what exactly each additive does in your system.
To get the best measure of pH, measure when lights first come on, midway through the photoperiod, and right after lights out. Take the average of those numbers to get an good solid of idea exactly where you pH is and how far it flucuates.
Does this make sense?

I never used osmo prep either. All you need is in the salt. Be sure to airiate the water overnight before the change.
I also agree with 007. Check those PH #'s through out the day.

one more note . . . make sure that you have enough turnover in your tank. Your pumps should turn over the entire volume of water at a bare minimum, ten times per hour.

One by one
The lights are on for around 3-hours before I take my tests
(still in work force and prize patrole drives by my house)
I never felt good about adding to much in the water but you learn this as you go along.thaks for the tip
most times I make the water on Montue have a bubblel wand in barrel (make aroud 25-30 gallons at time) plus a power head
to keep water moveing most times I add salt on Friday and chang water on Sat.
I did replace a hanging filter a couple of weeks ago And that when I started to notice the swing at that time I had a fluval canister #304 260 gph a penguin 330 / 330 gph now two fluval #304 so I did drop in gph I'll try putting an extra power head on never have enough of extra things around
thanks for all the input.
