I tested my pH level last night for the first time. Of course it tested high...8.8
Can i use the pH UP and pH DOWN from a fresh water kit i had. Or does it have to bough for salt water fish? Is there a differnce between the differnt Up and Down phs?? I know the ph should be between 8 and 8.2 right?

I believe there is some difference yes, the two waters work differently chemically speaking. I guess I would be leary using the ph up and downs as they are a concentrated acid, and have been known to burn fish and plants...I wouldn't feel safe using that in my tanks. What I usually do if I find my ph is off is a water change and mix the replacement water to adjust. However, did you test the water just before the lights went out? there is a natural ph flux throughout the day and night cycles in a tank. in the morning the ph tends to be where it should, and by the evening when the lights go off it may have raised up to .8! after the lights go off the ph starts to fall back down. So, if you go and test it right now while it's morning...I would be interested in hearing what the test result is. just some thoughts to help! let us know! Dave ;)
