PH Meter Question/Problem

I have a Milwaukee Model SM101 PH meter. I calibrated it as per instructions with 7 and 10 solutions. I am mixing up top off water in a 6 gallon water bottle. It is RO water with the equivalent of approximately ¼ teaspoon of Kent Super Buffer. I put the probe in the water, it read 8.65. Over the course of 20 minutes the meter is now reading 7.69 and still dropping approximately .01 every 30-45 seconds. I am thoroughly confused. There has been no temperature change in the water.

Your buffer is dissolving. If a larger particle lands on the probe's glass ball, it will read sky high, as the buffer dissolves, it will adjust accordingly.
