ph test

I'm testing the ph of my water. When I run the test the charts says the water should be blue, but mines comes up purple. what does this mean or what sould i do differently

they make a chemical called proper ph 8.2 get some it works great, imo. i used it over 2 months ago and ph has been great ever since.

Hold on there. What is the number on the pH reading? What is your alkalinity?
NEVER dose chemicals without checking and knowing all the levels.

adding chemicals to your tank is not a solution. Find out why the ph is low or high. What are your water levels?

proper ph will make the ph 8.2 regardless of what it is. if it is 8.2 it wont change it. i used it on my tank and have no complaints but you can listen to others if you want thats just my opinion and everyone is entitled to theirs if you dont want to use it dont but i used it and dont have any problems what-so-ever.

I don't recommend using any chemical without knowing your levels. Although proper pH may bring your pH level up to 8.2, your pH will just drop again unless you keep your alkalinity in check as well. With proper pH, you need to constantly use it if you have a low alk. However, if you test your alk and find out that that is your problem, you will only need to dose the alk once to buffer it.

It was recommended to you by the second poster that you add proper pH. I would just disputing this.

ok you said the test said your water should be blue if its right. am i correct? and you also said that it turned purple am i correct? that means YOUR PH IS OFF. and proper ph will fix it. do what you want i wont be reading this thread anymore since noone wants to even CONSIDER my opinion.

JS, if the pH is off, that has to be caused by something. pH is related to alkalinity, calcium, and magnesium. If one level is off, it could mess something else up, specifically pH. No one wants to consider your opinion because you need to do a little more research in the pH-alkalinity-calcium relationship.

An opinion is just that, an opinion. It's always nice to hear what others have to say whether or not you agree. It's a good idea to have several things to look at before jumping into your own decision.

It is an opinion that you like proper pH, it is ignorance that you dose chemicals without checking levels.
I said, "NEVER dose chemicals without checking and knowing all the levels." I never said that your suggestion of using proper pH was bad. The suggestion to use any chemicals without checking your levels is an ignorant one. That is what causes mistakes. That is usually the suggestion of an LFS. Most will give you the quick fix to any problem. Proper pH is a quick fix. It does not correct the problem usually.

It seems to me that if the color should be blue, and your's is purple, then your PH is probably reading off the chart. Mine did that for a while when I cycled. You have to bring your PH down. I would start with a water change.
How old is your tank? Do you have anything in it (Fish, snails, crabs etc.)?

Yes, recommending a water change is okay, because usually, that can only benefit your tank. However, if your alk is low in the salt you are putting in the tank, like Oceanic commonly is, you will only continue to mess the pH. No matter what, you need to test the levels in order to know the proper action that needs to be taken.
