i recently bought a small green monti frag and i totally forgot i had some phosphate. i checked it today, its at 0.5. when i got the frag it was really bright green now its kinda brownish green and it looks like its bleaching. im working on getting rid of the phosphate, when it goes away will the monti recover if it survives? i have about 4 watts per gallon, im using T5's and my Ca is 450.
this is my first SPS and im kinda scared

any idea where the phosphate came from?
my guess is from the rocks. i bought LR from 2 different FS's and one of them throws dieing or dead fish where they keep live rock to feed the large hermit crabs.

I have really high phosphates in my 55 gal tank. I do water changes every other week, but the phosphate levels stay rather high. Last water change they were at 5.0ppm. I use a canister filter and reef octopus hob protein skimmer.
Other than more frequent water changes is there anything I can do to reduce phosphates. Fairly certain the high phos levels killed my hard corals. (hammer, frogspawn) Haven't had any fish die-off, the nems appear healthy, and nitrates routinely test at zero ppm's

phosban isnt good from my experience. go with rowaphos. i started using two weeks ago, and i regreted not using it sooner. what a awesome product. all of my corals reacted great and whatever litttle algae i had b4 went away. i didnt even use a reactor with it. the 250ml bottle came with a filter bag, and i just let it sit in my fuge. if u do get it, dont rinse it since doing so with wash away some of the effectiveness of the media.

phosban reactor is good. what i am saying is instead of using phosban, put rowaphos inside the reactor.

i hv used phosban, but found it very ineffective. but the again i didnt use it in a reactor. in a reactor, i am sure u will get better result. i am in the process of redecorating my reef since i lost most of my sps 2 weeks ago due to skimmer not breaking down during vacation.

just did a search, and it came back as granular ferric oxide. its similar to rowaphos according to my research, but not sure how it compares.

i am sure its similar. from what i read, rowaphos has some patented material or ingredients in it.

I think you'll be pleased with the GFO. RowaPhos is good, but has side affects on certain sps. This has been documented long ago that to much RowaPhos has called issues. The purpose of rinsing RowaPhos is to knock down dust particles so they aren't introduced into the display tank, so shouldn't have any influence on it's effectiveness. Also running the material in a reactor makes better use of the material as well. I feel would actually make it more effective.

WELL....If all shipments arrive as scheduled...I should have the unit running this weekend....Once I get it, we have to measure for the "T" that I am going to cut into my sump return line....that is how I will run the reactor....and I will adjust the flow by the reactor's ball joint valve thing...

LOL...you guys know I have no clue about this.....
thank goodness for this board and my husband
