my phosphate in my 60 gal tank is at about 2, what is the best and easiest way to get it down, I have tried one of those phosphate pads but didnt seem like it is working, and now I have got this stuff called phos-zorb which is in a pouch and would like to know do I have to tank that pouch out after so long to clean it out or should I just leave it in there for the 6-8 weeks it said it works for

best way to get it out is to not put it in. From what ive learned phosphates get into the tank thru the food we put in and thru your source water. assuming you do not overfeed or use a food high in phsphates, the next step would be to test your source water. once that is cleared up if it is the problem your normal water changes will controll your phosphates.
I used the phosban stuff to, and all that does is mask the problem. you will still get phosphates from somewhere eliminate that and you should not need the phosphate remover.
if your not already use RO water. it should eliminate the problem if you are using ro test it for phosphates if it has some then you may need to change your filters or in case of LFS notify them as they probably have not changed theirs often enough. hope this helps

I have tried several different types of media and most were ineffective. I have found PhosGuard to be extremely effective. Eliminating the source if phosphate is important but you can never fully remove all input of phosphate and since you already have a high level of phosphate you will have a lot that will need to be removed. Water changes will help a little but in my opinion you will need to run a good phosphate media to get you back to where you need to be.

By having a refugium helps too!!! Another thing is if you feed frozen food, best to pre-rinse first before feeding.... :happyfish

I had a phosphate problem about 6 weeks ago, and I'm still working on getting rid of it. Luckily, I'm pretty much done.
In my tank, what would happen was this:
I had explosive algae growth after topping off a couple of times w/ regular tap water. I know this was bad, but the roads were icy and I couldn't get to LFS for DI water. I now keep 5 gallons extra on hand.
Anyway, so my tank was literally FILLED with red algae. I brought a picture to my LFS and they said it was the worst they've ever seen. The told me to use Chemi-Clean to bring my phosphates down. I dosed it with the stuff a few times, and everything was cool. Algae was going down, phosphates were going down, and the tank was returning to normal. Then I had another algae explosion. Apparently, decaying algae gives off phosphates, which in turn feeds more algae. The best thing to do that I've found is to do water changes twice as frequently, making sure to remove as much algae as you can, and dosing regularly w/ a phosphate reducer. I also found that it was helpful, if you have red algae, to peel it off the rocks (the less that decays in your tank, the less phosphates it'll add).
Anyway, you didn't say anthing about algae, so I hope your problem isn't as bad as mine was. Good luck!
btw, Chemi-Clean is VERY expensive for the amount of chemical you get (about $18 for just a few grams), but it doesn't take much at all per dose. One bottle lasted about 20 doses in my 20gal. Just don't knock the bottle into the floor, like I did. :(

I use RO water but next time I will test it to see if it has phosphates in it and I have green hair algea which was the first sign for me to know that my phosphates were getting high and I also have a little red algea and some like greenish brown stringy looking algea that I have been sucking off my rock
