phytoplankton and protein skimming

Do protein skimmers remove DT's phyto??? and if so how do I stop it...should I turn off the skimmer for a while while the DT's is being pushed around ny the powerheads???

I have my skimmer on a timer, so it's off for 3 hours starting at feeding time.

Ideally,you want to turn off your skimmer and any overflows while feeding. Remember the word "ideally".
