pic of my new baby

This is my new baby, Puffy. He's a figure 8 puffer only about 3/4" of an inch right now. I adapted him over to freshwater so I could keep him seperated from my other fish because the puffers are nippy.
I tried to get some pics of my new SW tank (it's my first sw and has only been about about a month so it's slow going right now) but all I get is reflection, glare, or blur. If I can get any decent pic I will post them.
Let me know what you think,
Jessica

Just wait till your baby gets to be a fat puffer, my brackish puffer has a permanent beer gut, he's fed too well :D

So figure 8 puffers can live in both fresh and salt water? My LFS has a bunch, and only keeps them in freshwater.

They are brackish, they start their lives in freshwater and as they age seek saltier enviornments. They can be acclimated to full salt though. I have seen brackish puffers in full sw tanks before. I also used to have a figure eight. It was a great fish, full of personality and fun to watch.

wow that is a FAT puffer!
Yeah figure8 puffers and leopards can live in either fresh, brackish, or salt. all you have to do to convert one to the other is float them in a bag with half fresh and half salt for 24 hours. Granted the bag has to be pumped with pure oxygen. But they won't breed in fresh. If I understood right they are born in fresh water and as they mature they move to brackish to breed.
But can live fine in any of the 3 as long as the are acclimated.
My particular puffer came from a full salt tank and is now in pure fresh and he is totally fine. But he won't breed, not that he could anyway because he is alone in the tank. :)
I almost got a dwarf leopard but they only get to be about 1/2" that's just too small to enjoy.
I had a leopard that I adapted over to fresh but he got ICK about a week and half ago and died. He was about 3". I didn't even realize he was sick until it was too late because it started on his tummy and his tummy was white. I still feel really bad about that. Now I check all my fish, fresh and salt, for ICK daily. I'm parinoid I know.
Thanks so much for you replies,
Jessica

When I first started keeping tanks I got a figure eight puffer. To this day still one of my favorite pets I ever had. It had so much personality it was unbelieavable.

I have a figure 8 in my saltwater tank. He is great. Not agressive at all. In fact hes the biggest wuss in my tank. He just hides underneath the powerhead all day because my damsels will whoop on him if he goes in the middle.:) Hes a very cool fish though.
