I am thinking about getting a Picasso Trigger, I was wondering if I could survey you all on the behavior of your particular picasso (either one you have had or had). What I am looking for is if they behaved well or were quite bullysome in the tank. If you could please share your experiences that'd be great!

i used to have a picasso....he was kinda mean..he was always nipping at some of the larger fish...so im saying if u were to get one, make sure its ur last edition to the tank, as far as fish go.
good luck

Picassos/humus usually start off as very mild-mannered juveniles, and then as they mature become very belligerent and aggressive towards other fish. Some people have had success keeping picassos with other smaller, peaceful fish, but usually it is just a waiting game until they turn on tankmates.

I bought a niger and a humu together the same size 9 months ago. They got along fine when they were smaller. Just recently i've been noticing the humu acting more and more aggressive during feeding. When they niger trys to take some food the humu will just lunge and snap at him. Pretty much dominates the tank.

My Huma, has a lot of personality. He races around a lot. He use to be the king of the tank, & had first dibs on meals, but since I intraduced my Clown Trigger, he's chilled out alot:thinking: :sneaky:

The Picasso would be entering a tank with a lot of strong personalities, like a snowflake eel (who is a fierce predator), a Dog Face, Pork Puff, Emp angel and H Tusk.

I think it should do just fine then. Just need some specimens that can keep it in line. I had a small one about 2 inches a while back and he got along with everything. Its so true that they get more aggressive as they age.

I like what I've been hearing. I've tried a 2 incher twice and both times it's got smoked by my menacing SFE. I need to get one with a little size on it. That will be my challenge

My picasso is very nice as of now and has a great personality! I will have to give him away in a year or so but don't mind as long as he has lots of room and will be happy. He's a little over three inches right now. -Al

I beleive your talking about the three stripe i put in with my undulate. Well it took some damage so i have it in my 10 gallon until his fins grow back. I never see the undulate attack it. Some mornings i'll just notice part of a fin missing. They seem to get along with the lights on. I just really want to try combinations with an undulate to see if i can get anythign to work. I had it in my 90 for a while but it got in regular disputes with a niger so i had to remove it. Really mean triggers.

I have a Huma now and in the 20 years I have had a tank, I have had 3 or 4 others and call me lucky or what but NONE of my Picassos have been the total aggressor that alot of people make them out to be. I never noticed Huma sized bits missing from his tankmates. First and foremost, Keep them fed. Hey I get irritable when I am starving also, and sometimes a nice piece of fish looks good to me! Remember in the wild whenever they get the slightest bit hungry, they eat. Starve a Trigger long enough and his eyes get bigger to the size of your tankmates. When they are fat and happy, they cruise around, do exercise laps, hunt and in general just have a good time. BUT if they are starving they even will hit on dead coral to try and get a morsel, then they will turn to you to say "I meant to do that!". They are smart, give good eye contact and are fun to watch them make new sleeping spots. When I walk into the room, he is the first to swim over and acknowledge me! Way cool.
Second, get a small one that has not been starved or abused yet. Alot of the bigger ones you might come across have already gone aggressive due to bad environment or care and they are there because somebody got rid of him for being a butt-head. Get a nice mellow small one, de-louse him and keep him happy and fed and you will have an excellent tankmate.
When I use my cleaning magnets, he chases it and even does the grunting sound Humas are known for. I have a lot of fun and enjoyment from my Picasso. As much as I like the looks of the Clown Trigger, I would rather have a Huma any day.
They are really hardy also, if something goes really wrong with the tank, he would be the last one to go. I had one jump out of a tank, flop on the floor, pick him up with my hand and he lived for years after that.
After all that is said and done, fish are like people also. There is an exception to every rule. A butt-head in every crowd. I just hope you are lucky like I have been.
Good luck,
Glenn

i've had a Huma for well over two years now. he's still not the biggest fish in the tank.. but he gets along well with all the other fish. never messed with my bubble tip while it lasted. but he constantly pics and nips at all the snails, when i had a fire shrimp in there, he would bite at the antenna on the shrimp. and would pick at the hermit crab, but the crab was able to hide well enough. so all in all it's a cool fish, just as long as you don't have anything for him that he would like to eat.. lol.

Oh mine is a super big bully! Some days I want to throw him on the carpet! Really it is my husband's fault for not paying attention to what is compatible with them though... he seems to think that he can find the ONE exception to the rule everytime... Ugh! But our humu is a big fat bully.

Fun fish with lots of attitude! Be careful they are one of the less aggressive triggers but they are still triggers!

I have had mine for about a year now Besides him being a messy fish(always stirring up the sand and spitting it all over) He actually eats from my hand and sometimes he also will sit in my hand as well. pretty cool fish if i do say so

i have a humu rectangle, he has the say in the tank. he don't mess with other fish, but feeding time is a whole different story, he turns into this vicious beast who does not like to share food. he gets first dibs on everything, but a nice fish overall.
funny story how i got him.... i originally went to the lfs, and wanted a niger trigger, there was the humu rectangle in there as well, the guy tried to get the niger, but it hid in a rock, so he said he'd wait for him to come out(he left the plastic container in the fish tank), he helped another customer while we were waiting, the humu rectangle helped itself in swimming right into the container and wouldn't leave it, so i took that as a sign and went ahead and took the humu home
