Picasso or Niger?

I'm really interested in triggerfishes and I'm looking to put one in my tank. I've narrowed it down to either a Picasso or Niger because the others such as Clowns are very expensive. Which fish would better serve a community oriented atmosphere? Which one is hardier? What's everyone's experiences w/them? Thanx in advance.

Well, I have never owned a picasso trigger but I have had a niger. I think they are very attractive with those skirt like fins. Did you know that their color can change from black to blue to green on a daily basis. Mine never turned green but switched between black and blue. One of the neat things about them in comparison to other triggers is their red teeth. They seem to be the more peaceful of the triggers and are good for beginners due to their hardiness. I just read that a picasso is also called a humma-humma and in that case, I have owned one. The one thing that I didn't like about that one is the sound they make when startled. The first time I heard it, I freaked. My books calls it whirring but to me it sounded more like a loud growling and mine did it at each feeding. Some hobbiest find that sort of thing fascinating but I didn't care for it. It is truely a person to person hobby. Everyone likes what they like for their own reasons. Also, the picasso does like to rearrange its home to make it more suitable so keep that in mind.
I hope I have helped.

I would vote for the picasso I have owned both and I just like how they act more. I hope you have a bigger tank then a 40 that would be fine for a very short time, they grow pretty fast and love to do alot of swimming. Good Luck

hate to tell you, but a trigger in a 40g just aint gonna work out. they are always on the move so they need atleast a 55g, more preferably a 75. the only agressive species that i wold consider putting in there is a snowflake eel or a dwarf puffer(valintini, sharpnose, etc). bo
