Picasso Sand Sifter

I was explaining to my LFS guy (long time reefer) how my picasso trigger takes sand in his mouth, swishes it around and spits out through his gills and mouth. He said he'd never heard of a picasso doing this and thought it odd.
Is this normal picasso behavior? He seems happy, eats come feeding time, and doesn't seem stressed. I'm just wondering if maybe he's missing something in his diet or if this is just normal picasso stuff?

Mine does it too, he does the same thing to the live rock.
